Plastic, especially the single use kind, is awful for the environment and creatures that live in it.
Because of this, you won’t find it in our packaging!
As an artist, Elyse enjoys creating functional pieces meant to be used and appreciated daily.
She draws inspiration from natural rock formations found across Colorado and uses atmospheric gas firings to create depth and variation in her work.
When a kiln is starved of oxygen it goes into a state called “Reduction”. Because fire needs oxygen to burn it pulls it from metallic oxides found in high-iron clay. The metallic oxides then convert to their metallic form, in this case iron, which acts as a powerful flux creating the beautiful speckles you see on Elyse’s work.
Leaving portions of her pieces unglazed is a way of paying tribute to the raw beauty of the clay.
Living with care.
In January of 2023, HUD calculated that 653,104 people were experiencing homelessness in the United States. This number is both appalling and heartbreaking.
In order to help in the fight against homelessness:
Ten percent of every purchase is donated to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless, a non-profit organization located in Boulder CO.
